Getting it right

There are many cliches about business start-ups - “if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail”, “xx% of new ventures fail in the first 3 years” etc.  While there isn’t always a lot of science to these comments, what is clear is that with effective business planning and the right assistance along the way, you have greater chance of success through focusing on the right things and avoiding dead-ends, learning the hard way, or taking longer than required to build your business.  A good business plan is also necessary for raising capital - whether seed, angel, venture or debt funding.

Todd Davies & Associates offers a detailed business planning service for start-ups which enables the team to be clear and highly unified on what they need to do from concept through market test, prototype, IP protection, resourcing, logistics, cash-flow projections, capital raising and a range of other aspects.  The aim of this service is really simple - we want to see people succeed in business and know that we contributed heavily to their success.

We offer this service in two ways:

  • A full service approach where TDA leads the entire exercise, including documenting the business plan in a robust manner which can in turn be used for project management, capital raising, financing, grant applications and a range of other uses.  This can be incredibly useful where the founders don’t have the time or skills to document an effective business plan, and need someone to write the document as well as drive the process.
  • A coaching methodology where we meet regularly with the founders to lead them through the full business planning process with the founders doing most of the work and documentation.  This works particularly well when the business is not yet in a strong cash position and the founders have the time and willingness to work through the full process to get it up and running.  Our experience is that the latter approach allows for a great learning experience along the way which will ultimately prepares participants for success in this venture and those that will come after it.  This is a great approach for businesses in the early start-up phase which aren’t funded yet.
