The Head of Internal Audit (also known as the Chief Audit Executive or CAE) is a key role in ensuring an organisation gets the best outcomes from its internal audit activity.  This is the case irrespective of whether the function is run in-house or outsourced to an external service provider.

Sometimes it’s not practicable to have a full time permanent CAE in-house for a range of reasons:

  • The current CAE is on extended leave (such as parental leave) and there is no-one internal who can step into the role in the short term
  • Delivery of the internal audit plan is outsourced, and there is a desire to get the most value out of the arrangement without duplicating management cost
  • The organisation is small and wants the intellectual grunt of an experienced CAE but can’t justify permanent staff

TDA’s Virtual Chief Audit Executive Service assists with these circumstances.

  • Fracti0nal CAE – We provide someone to act in the leadership role on an as-required basis to ensure that all things are moving along smoothly and you are getting the most out of your team and service provider.  This meets the needs of clients who can’t justify a permanent position but want access to the best skills and expertise to get the best results out of their assurance function.  It also works well for organisations who need extended leave cover and want things to remain in a holding pattern while their CAE is on extended leave.
  • CAE Locum – We provide someone to act in the CAE role on a contract / seconded basis (full time or part time).  This is a good option for when the CAE is on extended leave (parental leave, sabbatical, long service etc).

These roles are delivered by experienced audit professionals – either by one of our senior people with background support from Todd, or placing people with you based on who is available on the market at the time.
